Jakarta, Indonesia, February 13, 2026 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) hosted the ASEAN–Korea Cooperation on Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) Regional Workshop, entitled “Workshop on Modelling GHG and Methane Emissions and Mitigation Pathways in ASEAN”, from 11 to 13 February, bringing together around 50 participants, including government representatives from ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, technical experts and key stakeholders.

Held under the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation on Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) program, the workshop served as a regional platform to strengthen ASEAN’s technical capacity to address greenhouse gas (GHG) and methane emissions through improved data analysis and policy planning. It also advanced discussions on the ASEAN Methane Reduction Roadmap (MRR), a flagship regional deliverable under AKCMM.

AKCMM is a three-year, USD 20 million program under the Partnership for ASEAN-ROK Methane Action (PARMA), supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF). The program aims to strengthen institutional, technical, and financial foundations for methane mitigation across ASEAN Member States and to support concrete reduction activities. A key focus is to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea, particularly through technology-based climate solutions that drive innovation and sustainable economic growth.

At the opening session, remarks were delivered by Mr. Jeong-han Hahm, Chargé d’Affaires of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN; H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC); and Mr. Rowan Fraser, Country Representative of GGGI in Indonesia. The speakers underscored the urgency of strengthening expertise in GHG and methane mitigation and emphasized the value of practical and data-driven approaches in advancing ASEAN climate action.

Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in hands-on technical sessions on greenhouse gas and methane emissions data modelling, mitigation pathway analysis, and the development of measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems. Using modelling tools and methodologies aligned with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidance, participants strengthened their ability to better understand mitigation options and support evidence-based policy development in their respective countries, while identifying practical approaches to enhance national GHG inventories.

Participants actively contributed throughout the sessions and provided positive feedback, highlighting the workshop’s practical relevance to national policy development and methane mitigation planning. The consultation on the MRR, facilitated in-depth technical and policy discussions among ASEAN Member States and partners, contributing to stronger regional alignment.

The workshop represents a concrete step forward in translating regional collaboration into strengthened methane mitigation action and accelerated climate progress under AKCMM. Building on this momentum, GGGI remains committed to deepening regional cooperation and driving measurable climate impact.
