The Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) convened the first National Project Steering Committee meeting for the ASEAN-Korean Cooperation for Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) project, a regional initiative of GGGI, in Bangkok on March 21, 2025. Funded by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF) under the Partnership for ASEAN-Republic of Korea Methane Action (PARMA) Initiative, AKCMM seeks to contribute to reducing methane emissions in ASEAN countries by establishing a strong institutional, technical, and financial foundation.

The meeting resulted in an agreement on the objectives and activities for the project's three-year implementation in Thailand. Chaired by Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of DCCE, the meeting brought together 26 officials from nine government departments whose roles are relevant to methane mitigation efforts in the agriculture, waste, and energy sectors—the top three sources of methane emission. According to Thailand’s First Biennial Transparency Report, methane accounted for 23.08% of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2022.
